Prayer is the way that we communicate with God. All throughout the Bible, we are encouraged to talk to God because He wants to hear from us, no matter the circumstance. We can pray to ask for help, to thank God when something good happens, and to admit when we've made poor choices. Any reason you might call upon a friend, you can call on God through prayer. He is always listening!
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
1John 5:15
And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
James 5:13
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.
Psalms 91:15
He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.
Hebrews 4:16
Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy for our failures and find grace to help in time of need.
There are many different ways people pray. Some close their eyes to avoid distractions, while others keep them open. Some fold their hands and bow their head. Some raise their arms and point their face toward heaven. Some stand and some kneel.
It can be a different experience for each person and each scenario. Many find it helpful to go to a quiet place alone and speak their prayers out loud. There's something special about hearing your own voice in prayer. But the main focus of prayer is to connect with God as your Father and Friend.
There are no perfect words. The only thing required is to be honest and real before Him. He looks past any performance we may try to bring. So bring your heart before Him and see what He will do!
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Almighty God, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, come to my help and deliver me from this difficulty that besets me. I believe Lord, that all trials of life are under Your care and that all things work for the good of those who love You. Take away from me fear, anxiety, and distress. Help me to face and endure my difficulty with faith, courage and wisdom. Grant that this trial may bring me closer to You for You are my rock and refuge, my comfort and hope, my delight and joy. I trust in Your love and compassion. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
O Holy Father, heavenly Physician of the body and soul, Who has sent Your Only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to heal ailments and deliver us from death; please heal me, Your servant, of all suffering, and restore me to health by the grace of Your Divine Son. For You are the Fountain of all cure, O Lord, and we give thanks to You, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
O Lord, Thou who steadied the hand of Peter as he began to sink on the stormy sea, if You are with me, no one is against me. Grant to me the shield of faith and the mighty armor of the Holy Spirit to protect me and guide me to do Your will. The future I put into Your hands, O Lord, and I follow You to a life in Christ. Amen
O Sovereign Lord Jesus Christ our God, the Source of life and immortality, I thank You, for You have blessed me to be a recipient of Your blessing and gift of a child; for Your said "Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth." I thank You and pray: Bless this fruit of my body that was given to me by You; favor it and animate it by Your Holy Spirit, and let it grow a healthy and pure body, with well-formed limbs. Sanctify its body, mind, heart, and vitals, and grant this infant that is to be born an intelligent soul; establish him or her to love You, and a faithful angel, a guardian of soul and body, to protect them. Protect, keep, strengthen, and shelter the child in my womb until the hour of his or her birth, for you gave them life and health. O Lord Jesus Christ, into Your almighty and paternal hands do I entrust my child. Place him or her upon the right hand of Your grace, and through Your Holy Spirit sanctify them and renew them unto life everlasting, that they may be a part of Your Heavenly Kingdom. Amen.
Almighty and merciful God, I most humbly and heartily thank Your divine majesty for Your loving kindness and tender mercies, that you have heard my humble prayer, and graciously delivered me from my trouble. Grant me your helping grace, that I may obediently walk in your Holy Commandments, and lead a sober, righteous and godly life, ever remembering your mercies, and the blessings you have undeservedly bestowed upon me, that I may continually offer to you the sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
